The media center program does not work with XP, which is why they released Windows XP Media Center Edition. XP. Your options are XP Home, XP Pro, or XP Media Center. Pros. I kinda Like it on my W7 Machine. Cons. CNET Sucks for misleading us to think we can download WMC for XP, I give CNET one star because I cannot give them ZERO stars. Summary. Their are other media center softwares that support the standard video file formats, unlike WMC, which only generates WTV files, then needs to be converted to view by most ALL TVs. This review was very helpful because it has, at last, shown me that Microsoft couldnt give a fuck about being fair Tv programs that worked fine when first set up on XP media version now dont work and they want to charge for upgrading to windows 7. They can go and fuck them selves I can buy a full blown flat screen TV for half the price Pros. None, since the product cannot be downloaded. Cons. The name of this download is Windows XP Media Center Edition 2. However, if you click Download Now, all you see is a link to upgrade to Windows 7, to enjoy the latest on Windows Media Center. Summary. The bottom line is that if you want to download Windows Media Center, even the XP version of Windows Media Center, you are going to have to upgrade to Windows 7. And the only reason I can think of is that Microsoft wants your money. Reply to this review. Read replies 2Was this review helpful Reply by jc. 36. 4 on December 5, 2. Sorry, just saw your reply. Your sarcasm is noted. When I wrote the review, I was frustrated that I couldnt just download Media Center by itself. I was also frustrated by MS excluding XP support from its products for the sole purpose of pushing people to the new OS. However, its unimportant. This review was almost 2 years ago, and people should definitely be looking for something else by now, even if its not Windows. Windows 7 is great, but people should go with Ubuntu if the upgrade is cost prohibitive desktop Linux has come a long ways, and the upgrades are free. Also, I know it seems silly to expect that links to XP Media Center Edition point to XP Media Center Edition and not something else. Maybe its CNETs problem, and they just need to take down this faulty download listing. Reply by jcasetnl on April 1. Now that is amazing I can not believe Microsoft would have the gall to link to their new, updated product after their previous version based on an operating system that is over 1. And they also want to charge money for it. Completely unbelievable. Thank you for your excellent review and sage words. Pros. I get winows 7. Cons. This is just a screwjob from microsoft, to get everyone on 7. Reply to this review. Was this review helpfulWindows Media Player Wikipedia.
